The Huntsman in Little Wenlock, which is owned and run by the Morris family, has been named the winner of the Telford and Shropshire CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) Pub of the Season competition.
Rachael Ball, supervisor, said being recognised by CAMRA has been a dream since the popular pub was reopened in 2011.
“It’s been a big goal of ours for a while now,” she said. “We always have five different real ales on and they’re really popular. We went for the award last season but just missed out – but this time we got it so we’re all really pleased.”
She said the success was down to new barman and real ale enthusiast, Martin Jenks.
“We’ve had a lot of success recently because Martin really loves his real ale and is actually a member of CAMRA,” she said. “This is a big thing for him because he absolutely loves what he does.”
Peter Morris collected the award, which will now proudly be displayed in the pub, from CAMRA Telford and east Shropshire chairman, Adrian Zawierka, on Saturday.
CAMRA, a voluntary organisation campaigning for real ale, community pubs and consumer rights, regularly sends members around pubs in the area to judge the beer on offer. Each judge then submits their top three favourite pubs.
